Due to the delay over the last two years in commencing the work on the roof, the cost increased considerably. However, we are delighted to report that the roof of the church has been completed and has come in under budget. The initial quote was €94,599.00 and the final cost for the roof was €88,631.00, €50,000.00 of which was borrowed.
Conservation Engineer Fee:
Due to the fact that St. Mary Magdalene Church is a listed building the committee had to employ the services of a Conservation Engineer, Dermot Nolan, who assisted with all the planning and regulations concerning Wexford Co. Council; and who also oversaw the repairs to the church roof. The fee for Dermot Nolan was €6,765.00.
The Parish Council would like to thank all who supported our fundraising efforts during 2016 and all who support the envelope and other collections at Masses in the Church.
The roof of the parochial house was also in need of repair as the flashing in the valleys and around the chimney had worn and water was leaking through the roof and causing damage to the sitting room ceiling; also the ceiling in the hall between the kitchen and the office had a thick black mould and mildew which was considered a health hazard, it was also causing a mouldy smell in the house. The front door which was an aluminium single glazed, also need to be replaced particularly above the front door arch which was rotten. The committee agreed that these repairs should be undertaken immediately. The new door was installed by Eamon Kehoe, Superglaze, who also carried out the renovations on the hall. Liam Kelly repaired the roof. These repairs and renovations have been completed and the total cost of these repairs was €8,186.00.
It is your community, your parish, your church.
